Chamonix is for nature, adventure and sports lovers. Replete with incredible scenery it’s the cable car to Mont Blanc that’s the top rated attraction here. The Aiguille du Midi reaches a stunning 3842m offering viewing platforms for wonderful views of glaciers and panoramic views of the valley.
The other big attraction is the Mountain Train that gets you to the spectacular sights of La Mer de Glace glacier or Sea of Ice. Here on, the cable car takes you to the glacier and the Ice Grotto for ice sculptures in the caves. The Montenvers museum located nearby is a tourist attraction.
The Ski season is a great time to be in Chamonix. It’s what the place is really famous for. The local food and produce is also a major draw in Chamonix. Sunday markets and weekly markets at nearby Sallanches, St Gervais and Samoen are great.
Nature lovers can go sightseeing to the lakes and waterfalls nearby. Day trips to Lake Annecy, Megeve, Saint Gervais, Morzine or La Clusaz are exceptional. Chamonix is very close to the Swiss and Italian borders facilitating day trips to other resorts.
